Being Happy in Our Work!

Why do some people always seem to need someone to hate? Do they think belittling someone else makes them better? Do they get some sort of self-gratification from gossip?

In my opinion, these people promote negativity and create an unhealthy and unpleasant environment for others. Left unchecked it grows like a cancer; it kills the creativity, drive and productivity of those around them.

While men  are not exempt, unfortunately, this seems to be more prevalent with women, at least this is my assessment after many years in the working world.

Can we change their behavior? Can we change the environment without changing the person? What do we do if we cannot?

I am not a psychologist, so I can only presume that this type of behavior exists in someone who is insecure and who feels inadequate amongst her fellow co-workers. She singles out a person and attempts to alienate others to her target.

Can we change her behavior? Probably not. We can attempt to change the environment by not feeding her gossip and negativity. The result will depend on whether others do the same.

If we cannot change the person or the environment, we need to look to ourselves and decide – Is this how I want to live my life? The choice is ours — Be Happy!
