Though I may not be here with you, I urge you to answer the highest calling of your heart and stand up for what you truly believe. In my life I have done all I can to demonstrate that the way of peace, the way of love and nonviolence is the more excellent way. Now it is your turn to let freedom ring.

Excerpt from John Lewis essay in The New York Times

U.S. Representative John Lewis, a Civil Rights activist and true American hero, will be laid to rest today in Atlanta, Georgia.

As our American values and freedoms are being challenged it is imperative that we fight against the forces that are stoking racism and working to divide this country. They are failing in their commitment to protect and defend the Constitution of America and democracy.

In Representative Lewis’ essay he calls on all of us to answer the call against such forces, as he did. We must heed the call and act. We must vote in November 2020!

Take a few minutes and read the complete essay in today’s New York Times.
