Alone in a Foreign Land

Dazed and confused Carrie took in the devastation. The smell, dust and debris. The charred remnants of a home. Explosions and fire had roared around her as she sought refuge, she remembered.  How had she survived?

A smokey fog hung over the scorched earth. She stumbled through the rubble hoping, searching. Who could help her find her way? Step after exhausting step, nothing, no one.

Through the darkness only a faint glimmer for light indicated it was day; but what day, what time?

The hours turned to days. By day she walked and slept on the barren ground at night. Hunger and thirst consumed her thoughts Without food or water, her existence seemed dire.

She was alone in a foreign land. Why had she survived?
