UNHOLY, Why White Evangelicals Worship at the Alter of Donald Trump

Summary
Sarah Posner shows that Donald Trump’s election to the White House was not a fluke, but rather owed much to five decades of plotting and planning by America’s highly politicized Christian right.
Jane Mayer
Sarah Poser has studied and investigated politics and religion for years. In “Unholy” she digs deep into the radical history of the religious right. What she reveals about its core beliefs of race and xenophobia is disturbing.
My Review
I was completely blown away by this book. Before reading “Unholy” I had the feeling that Trump was a pawn being manipulated by the likes of Steve Bannon and Stephan Miller. I had no idea how deep, intricate and powerful that web of influence is and has been for decades.
People wonder, “what has happened to the Republican party?” According to Ms. Posner, the Party has been rebuilt by design. Early designer, Thomas Moore and televangelists, like Jim Baker, Pat Robertson, Brody and others, have been leading Christians down a path to fulfill their conservative agenda since the early 1970’s.
To fulfill that agenda they needed the power of the President. They thought they had it in Ronald Reagan, but it failed. Then Donald Trump came along He was easily taken in with Paula White; and with the prospect of power, money and fame, Trump signed on.
Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
Matthew 7:15
According to Ms. Posner, Trump’s presidency has been about fulfilling the goals of the powerful conservative right and rebranding the GOP. How better to accomplish that than through the guise of Christianity?
Judging by the following Trump has gained, it is working. While Trump did not gain re-election, his impact over the 4-year term with stacked courts and racial unrest has cemented a deeply concerning foundation for America’s future. Anyone concerned, even interested, in the fate of our democracy and the rights of all Americans must read this book.
I highly recommend it. Trump and the following he has garnered are not going away.
