Books – From The Shelves Of Others To Mine

Books Read or TBR

Please forgive my tardiness in posting book reviews, recommendations, and such, I have been busy reading. For anyone who does not know, I do not like to spend a lot of money on books. Most get read once and then collect dust on a shelf, get traded or donated. I’m not a collector. I do keep books that I might read again.

These four books came from my last visit to “The Store.” “The Store” is at our local landfill where they recover good stuff that people discard and they resell it. As the old proverb says, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Sometimes you can find almost new books, other times, you only find ones a bit used. It’s fun to look through the shelves. It’s like a treasure hunt. But, I digress. On to the books. Here are 2 from this group.

Two By Twilight – 2 in 1 stories by Maggie Shayne

book cover for Maggie Shayne's stories in Two for Twilight

Run from Twilight” – A serial killer who strikes by the light of the full moon has made Mary McLean his next target. She knows she should be cautious, but she can’t stay away from Michael Gray, a mysterious man with an unearthly secret. But is he there to protect her? Or is he the real danger?
“Twilight Vows” – Longing to learn his secrets, Rachel Sullivan found herself a willing captive of Donovan O’Roark. But the young Irish beauty never envisioned his true identity. And neither one was prepared to face the growing hunger they felt for each other .

Book description

Dark romance with sex, murder and vampires. Blood sucking and reading about it, no matter how well written are not very enjoyable for me. Three stars on Goodreads; I can’t fault the writer for good writing just because I didn’t care for the storyline.

We Were The Mulvaneys a novel by Joyce Carol Oates

book cover for Joyce Carol Oates novel We Were the Mulvanneys

The Mulvaneys are blessed by all that makes life sweet. But something happens on Valentine’s Day, 1976—an incident that is hushed up in the town and never spoken of in the Mulvaney home—that rends the fabric of their family life…with tragic consequences. Years later, the youngest son attempts to piece together the fragments of the Mulvaneys’ former glory, seeking to uncover and understand the secret violation that brought about the family’s tragic downfall.

Book description

A New York Times Notable Book of the Year, an Oprah’s Book Club feature and made-for-tv movie, this is next on my To Read list. This was originally published in 1996, having read and enjoyed Oates’ The Gravedigger’s Daughter I put this in my bag. I expect this won’t disappoint.

Follow me on Goodreads to see what I’m reading and please offer up any suggestions or recommendations you have. I never know what I’ll find at The Store. I will try to keep up here with books or authors that I enjoy or have enjoyed.
