Dark as midnight, Evil lurks. Stalking our thoughts, our senses.
Hovering, poking, prodding, Evil waits.
Patient yet eager to strike and steal our soul, our life.

Evil hides, illusive behind a fake mask,
Existing one day as a lonely soldier in lands far away
or the kid next door, only to morph and reemerge – a new identity, a new face, a new game.

The story is posted as a response to Eugi’s Weekly Prompt – Midnight – August 19, 2021. Following are my comments on cyber crime/criminals.

We try to be diligent, but it is to no avail. We don’t think “Evil” so we can be easily, or not so easily, duped.

WHY do they do it? Because they can.

An individual, company or corporation is always working to exploit our online presence. They use the latest technology capitalizing on its capabilities and its flaws to their advantage.

Some want it for marketing potential, information gathering to sell, while others want it for more sinister, malicious reasons. Regardless of their methods, the motivation is MONEY.

What can we do?

• Follow the advice of the experts
• Stay knowledgeable of the threats
• Be vigilant
