One of the world’s best loved horror stories, Frankenstein was written by 18 year old Mary Shelley as a result of a competition to write a ghost story. The idea for the story is said to have come to her in a dream (perhaps nightmare would be a better description). Published in 1820 it is believed to be the first-ever work of science fiction.

Many believe Frankenstein is the monster’s name; however, the monster was never named, simply referred to a “monster” or “beast’. The scientist’s name was Frankenstein.

In 1910 Thomas Edison’s studio made Frankenstein into a film – a one-reel, 15-minute film, one of the first horror movies ever made. Watch “FRANKENSTEIN (1910) HD on YouTube
