Ragtag Daily Prompt-Project: a story

Homonyms, multiple-meaning words, are words that have the same spelling and usually sound alike, but have different meanings

Julian sat on the front stoop. All he saw was crumbling concrete and weather-worn brick. Layers of years-old dirt and grime seemed to coat every surface.

This had been his home and the homes of his neighbors for so many years. It was called The Projects, low-income, government subsidized housing.

The city was building up around them. The hospitals, medical offices, banks, coffee shops, bars and bistros. The $400 a night hotels, restaurants with their white linen tablecovers and glistening candlelight, and million dollar condos.

He had seen them before. They come in their fancy black limos, the Suits! It’s only a matter of time before they announce a new project to rebuild The Projects.

Every day Julian sat wondering, How long before The Projects are swallowed up? What will happen to him and his neighbors?

Julian projects that they will come with their project sooner than later.
