Latitudes of Longing – a book review

Shubhangi Swarup is a talented new author from India; this is her literary debut.

A Novel

The story follows the lives of a mix of characters across India from the islands to the snow desert as they search for intimacy and love. We follow a scientist who studies trees and a clairvoyant who talks to trees, a turtle who transforms into a boat then into a woman, and others whose lives are interconneted in the search.

The story is told in 4 parts which Shubhangi artfully ties together to interconnect the characters lives.

I read this book for book club. It is an unusual subject for me as I am unfamiliar with Indian culture and beliefs. This was a good learning experience. I did have some difficulty grasping the storyline but was so intrigued that I reread the book. Thumbs up to the author, she is a talented writer and storyteller. I recommend reading it.
